Potions NEWT LEVEL

So you have decided to take the last step in learning what you can about Potions. NEWT level is the highest level of class offered, and it will be the most difficult class. You have had to create simple potions, that gave you a few other ingredients that when combined help create a better potion or a new one. For your NEWT class, You will need to research an area that could use a new potion, or expand on an already known one. I will be asking for you to explain why it is needed, and what effect will this new potion have on that specific area.  You will be either creating a whole new potion, or taking a previously existing potion and change it to better fit in that particular area. From there you can either take a potion that is known, but does not have any or many known ingredients to make, or create an entirely new potion for that specific area. If using an existing potion, you must have a total of at least 10 ingredients listed between those that are known and those that you have added. If you are creating a new potion, I would like at least 8 ingredients.

Term 1 Weeks 1-4:

Option 1:

You have done your researching some background on potions or Potioneers it is time for your to do some serious brewing. For this option, you will be looking through known potions and choose one that has little to no known directions for how to make it. In this part of the lesson, you need to find out what you can with the potion. Note what the potion is used for, what is known ingredients. You then need to decide what other ingredients you think should be in the potion. This is where your past experience looking up ingredients comes into play as you can decide what else would be a part of the potion based on what the potion does. Explain why you chose the ingredients you picked. Once you have done this, you need to post the directions you feel need to be done to brew the potion. Please do not pick a potion that has a full set of ingredients and directions.

Option 2:

So you have explored the background of potions or Potioneers. Now you are ready to make your own potion! Yes, a potion that is not known that you feel is needed in the Magical world. You have seen what all it takes to invent new potions, so here is your chance to find a new one. You need to make sure that what you want to create, has not been done in the past. Or possibly you feel you can make a better, potion using different ingredients. Decide what potion you feel we have a need for. Once you have picked your potion, you will need to research what ingredients will work best for the potion and then decide the steps required for brewing. Explain why you chose the ingredients you did, and how they will work in the potion you are creating. Explain why you chose the order of brewing steps. Is there a reason to do one thing before the next, as in reaction of ingredients.

-Tell me if the potion changes you made improved the overall potion or not and why.

Option 2:

You are now about to embark on creating your own new potion. Take a deep breath and get ready after making sure you have all the ingredients you need and your brewing instructions.

- Write me a detailed report on all you did while brewing your potion. Include the steps, and how that went. Did you need to start over or go back to change any ingredients or steps from your original directions. I want to know as much as possible about how this went.

- In the end, did the potion turn out as you hoped for?

- What have you learned about creating a new potion?
